The Macomb County Reference & Research Center also has books about legal topics for non-lawyers, students, and the general public.  These cover wills, trusts, landlord-tenant law, divorce, child custody, taxation, citizenship, and many other areas.  Additionally, the library has a variety of legal forms.  Many of these materials can be checked out.

Our reference librarians can help to guide you to our legal materials and help understand the process of legal research.  However, librarians cannot give legal advice, interpret the law or answer questions about legal matters.

Remember that any website that has thorough "annotations" (summaries of court decisions interpreting statutes and rules) costs money to view.  The library has books and the Westlaw database, with annotations, available for your in-library use, without charge.

The Cornell Law School

This is the best single free website for accessing the statutory laws and court decisions of all fifty states, our federal (United States) system, and the laws of other countries.  Remember, though, that not all court decisions are available online for free.
